Once You Arrive in Rome

Italians love bureaucracy. It does not end after the visa. Once you arrive, you will need to complete the following.

1. Appointment at the Immigration office and obtain your "Codice Fiscale" (like a social security number) 2-3 Hours. This must take place within 8 days of your arrival in Rome. AOSR schedules your appointment.

2. Integration Training (cultural workshop) 4-6 Hours. All non-EU foreign national citizens aged between 16 and 65 years who apply for a residence permit (permesso di soggiorno), with a duration of at least one year must sign the Integration Agreement (with a duration of 2 years) with the Italian State, at the Immigration Services Office, based on the type of residence permit requested. The immigration office assigns this appointment.

3. Open a local Bank Account 1-3 hours

4. Safety Training 12 hours. AOSR will schedule these three sessions (4 hours each) in September.

5. Mail in application for a "permesso di soggiorno" 1-2 hours at local post office

6. Visit to Police station for "permesso di soggiorno" 2-4 hours. Involves paperwork and finger printing. Varies with each group. We waited outside in the cold for 2 hours. Others went right in. The immigration office assigns this appointment.

7. Getting your health card and selecting a doctor. This requires a visit to the local health office. They are also open Saturday morning. 1 hour
